With each new clue, they'll remember a bit more of what happened to them while alive, and as you show them more clues and corroberate accounts, you'll piece together the stories of these dead colonists - some stories have pretty clever twists that will leave you shocked or appalled.Atmosphere in this game is spot-on too, the washed out colors of the world, combined with the eerie ambient noises, and lack of music, really put you on edge the whole time. The enigmatic Maiden in Red remains so guarded - or just naturally passionless - that it's difficult to connect with her, which leaves it equally difficult to invest emotionally in the situation at hand. I would say it is worth picking up because it really does have an interesting style that will keep you occupied for awhile. Betrayer doesn't force any motivations, or any personal details for that matter, on the player character which makes it odd, then, that the only other living person in the area isn't given them either.
You sailed from England expecting to join a struggling colony on the coast of Virginia.. Achies are not hard to get, yet, going after them will cost you more time, then the walkthrough of the game itself. There are no jumpscares. At least that's what it says on paper. Loading reviews. Sometimes there's "more" to the story, and it's just more fetch quests and finding out why they're dead. And despite incidental noises being the only sounds the game provides, the tension of always listening for the next encounter means actionless stretches are not tedious. It's even fun to just go out into the wilderness and listen to the sounds - they have done a great job.I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed a FP action/adventure with a dark disturbing story. Building up atmosphere, you look around you and the winds howl, the trees and leaves rustle violently creating a very ominous feeling of living in a corrupt land driven mad.
